New York City

 

Monday, November 10, 2003 - 10:30 pm

 

We started our day visiting the PPSNJ main site (the offices and clinic), and then continued in a more formal meeting with the management team; we learned about their responsibilities, work experiences, and shared with them our experience. 

 

In the afternoon we meet with Camden County Department of Health and Human Services representatives. They introduced in a wonderful way their programs on Alcohol and substance abuse, prevention program for infectious diseases, immunization, public health nursing, health nutrition and health promotion. They presented a detailed overview of the way the services are organised stressing out the fruitful collaboration with PPSNJ and the importance of this partnership.

 

We continued the day in meeting with the Executive Committee of the Council of United Way of Camden County Executives, which was a wonderful possibility for us to learn how the funds can be raised, used and managed effectively in order to offer social services and activities for the other members of community. 

 

We concluded the day by meeting with Freeholders Riletta L. Cream and   Laurelle Cummings at City Hall.  We learned about their experiences being women in politics, their views on the importance of the women’s participation in decision making bodies. 

 

 

Tuesday, November 11, 2003 - 10:10 pm

 

We started our day by meeting with PPSNJ Development Department representative. She provided a clear overview of the department functions as well as explained the procedures of getting and keeping donors. We also meet with the PPSNJ Public Affairs Department who gave a wonderful overview of the work developed by the Department during the last years, the values that provides basis for this work as well as offering useful examples in order to advocate for several issues.  

 

We spent the lunchtime meeting with the PPSNJ Board of Trustees composed by several very experienced people.  We shared with them some of our views regarding the reproductive health/family planning situation in Albania.

 

We continued the day by visiting the Constitution Centre and Philadelphia.

 

 

Wednesday, November 12, 2003 - 11:15 pm

 

We were at the Family Planning Association of New Jersey in Trenton in the morning meeting with the Board. Then we continued with a tour of Planned Parenthood Association of Mercer site in Trenton that provides reproductive health care including abortion services, education and supportive services for women.

 

We spent the afternoon meeting with the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, Division of Family Health Services, Cancer and Reproductive Health Services. They provided us with information on the Department’s responsibilities as well as with useful ideas in setting up collaboration with governmental bodies.

 

At the end of the day, we visited the PPSNJ Burlington County site that offers family planning services for the people living in the surrounding area.

 

 

Thursday, November 13, 2003 - 10:35 pm

 

We stared the day by reviewing the Clinic Protocols of the PPSNJ and continued with participating in an Education presentation at Camden City Creative Arts High School.

 

Our day continued with a spectacular cultural lunch with PPSNJ staff, exchanging ethnic dishes and information on our personal backgrounds, situations in our countries as well as creating more informal relationships.

 

In the afternoon we had the honour to be presented to City Council in City Chambers and got a Commendation since we are partners with the PPSNJ, whose work is very much supported and appreciated by the Camden City Council. 

 

  

Friday, November 14, 2003

 

Our day started very early in the morning preparing for the Global Partners breakfast at Tavistock Country Club. We had the honour to be presented to the Congressmen Andrews as well as to the other participants in the event, hearing about their concerns on the international family planning issues and sharing with them our concerns and experiences. The breakfast has been accompanied with an exposition of the Albanian traditional products that we brought that have been sold during the event.  

 

We concluded the day meeting with the Project Coordinator of Office of US Senator Frank R. Lautenberg. During this meeting we made all the efforts to brief her on the reproductive health/family planning situation in Albania and the crucial role of the international support for our country.
